Methuen Firefighter Robert George age 46 of Methuen, MA, died Wednesday at his home after an apparent heart attack.

He was born in Methuen, MA, grew up and was schooled in Lawrence & Methuen, MA. He lived most of his life in Methuen, having also lived in Groveland, MA.

Rob was a Methuen, MA firefighter, where he worked for 16 years. He also was the co-owner of Labrador Property Management. He was a licensed electrician and contractor. Rob was a member of the IAFF and he was so proud to be in the brotherhood of firefighters and loved them all like his own brothers. He loved boating and his camp on Sebago Lake in Maine. Rob was a hard worker and loved being with his family and friends. Rob was also anxiously awaiting the arrival of his first two grandchildren.

GROVELAND: Zack A. Zalewski, 22, passed away from injuries sustained in an automobile accident on February 15, 2012. He is survived by his father, Edward and his wife, Cynthia (Dorr) Zalewski of Groveland and his mother, Charlene (Chaplain) and her husband, David Sheehan of Lynn.
Born in Boston on July 6, 1989 he has been a resident of Groveland for the past seventeen years. A graduate of Pentucket Regional High School class of 2008, he was a member of the Sachems Football Team. Zack was also a graduate of Northern Essex Community College, where he received an Associate’s Degree in Liberal Arts. He was currently an employee of Kendall Construction Company in Groveland, where he worked as a heavy equipment operator. Zack was an avid snowboarder and worked as a snowboard instructor at Ski Bradford for several years.
A lifelong dream of Zack’s came true when he traveled to Colorado to snowboard the peaks of the Rocky Mountains. An experience he truly enjoyed and would never forget. He also recently spent a week in Florida fishing with his family in the Gulf of Mexico. Zack was a person who never said no to anyone that needed his help and above all loved life and always turned a negative into a positive. The loss of Zack will surely leave a huge void in the lives of the people who knew him best.
He is also survived by his two sisters and brothers-in-law, Heather and Peter Garofalo of Lynn and Shauna and Mat Marcotte of Groveland; his maternal grandmother, Delores (Carpenter) Lee of Webster; two nephews, Cameron Powers and John Garofalo both of Lynn; a niece, Ashlin Rose Marcotte of Groveland and several aunts, uncles, cousins and many dear friends. He was also predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Arthur J. and Roberta H. (Gallagher) Zalewski and his maternal grandfather, Charles “Kenny” Chaplain.
Zack’s funeral service will be held on Monday in the Groveland Congregational Church, 4 King St., Groveland at 10 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday in the Linnehan-Grondin Funeral Home, 129 Kenoza Ave., Haverhill from 2 – 6 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Interment will be held in the Riverview Cemetery, Groveland.

GROVELAND: Emily M. (Whatmough) Termini, 79, died at home peacefully on Sunday, February 26, 2012 after a long battle with cancer. She was the wife of Joseph T. Termini with whom she shared sixty years of marriage.
Born in Lynn on December 14, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Evelyn (Randall) Whatmough. She attended Lynn public schools and was a graduate of Lynn Classical High School class of 1951. Emily and Joseph were married in 1952 and spent their first three years of marriage in Panama while Joseph served our country in the U.S. Navy. Their first child was born in Panama and after Joseph was discharged they came back to Lynn and resided there from 1955 until 1967. They then relocated to Groveland and have been residents there for the last forty-five years.
Emily worked for several years as a baker for the Ingaldsby Farm in Boxford. In her spare time when not tending to her family, she enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles, going to the beach and especially loved to take long walks. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and was very family orientated. Emily spent a lot of time babysitting for her grandchildren over the years. Her family will hold close to their hearts all the wonderful memories they have created together over the years. She will be forever missed by all who knew her.
She is also survived by her three sons, Joseph R. Termini and his wife, Joanne of Amesbury, Anthony W. Termini and his wife, Beth of Groveland and Mark M. Termini and his wife, Joni of Plaistow, NH; her daughter, Janice L. (Termini) Theurer and her husband, Mark of Chelmsford; six grandchildren, Jason Termini of Manchester, NH, Justin Termini of Andover, Matthew Termini of Marlborough, Patrick Termini of Derry, NH, Randy Termini of Groveland and Lauren Theurer of Chelmsford; three great-grandchildren, Vincent and Genaro Termini and Lena Emily Termini; a sister, Marilyn Donovan of Virginia. She was also predeceased by a sister, Norma Osborne and a brother, James Whatmough.
At the request of Emily’s family all services will be privately held. Expressions of sympathy may be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.

Pasquale Cerbone, a longtime Somerville resident died unexpectedly at home on Sunday. He was 53.

Born in Naples, he came with his family to the United States as a young boy. First living in Boston’s North End, the family settled in Somerville in 1976. Pasquale worked as a baker at La Ronga Bakery in Somerville. He was devoted to his family and earned the love and affection of his many nieces and nephews who called him “Uncle Pat”.

The beloved son of Ottavio and the late Bianca Cerbone, He was a loving brother to Antonietta Mustone and her husband Alberto of Somerville, Joseph Cerbone and his wife Linda of Lynn, Peter Cerbone and his wife Linda of NC, Enza Basile and her husband Celestino of Groveland. Pat also leaves many devoted nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

His funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St. Medford, Saturday, March 24th at 10 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Catherine of Genoa Church, 179 Summer Street, Somerville at 11 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Friday 4 – 8. Services will conclude with entombment at Holy Cross Mausoleum, Malden.

GROVELAND: Eileen F. (Boner) Shanahan, 93, the matriarch of five generations passed away on Sunday, June 17, 2012 after a period of declining health at Penacook Place in Haverhill. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Joseph W. Shanahan with whom she shared forty-five years of marriage with.
Eileen was born in Haverhill on August 28, 1918 and was the daughter of the late Frederick J. and Florence P. (Lanen) Boner. She was educated in Bradford schools and attended Groveland High School.
As a young woman she worked for several years at the former Western Electric and also as a receptionist for Roger’s Studio in Haverhill. Eileen was an active member of St. Patrick’s Parish and belonged to the Catholic Daughters of America.
She was an avid Red Sox and Patriot’s fan through the years. Eileen was known to place a bet or two on the weekly football pool and won many times. After the death of her husband she decided to gain her independence and enrolled in driving school and at the age of sixty-three, she became a licensed driver for the first time. She enjoyed many driving trips around New England with her family and friends and ended her week with Friday lunches with the “lunch bunch”. Eileen’s family was of the utmost importance to her and she will be remembered for her devotion, care and love that she showed to all of them over the years. The Shanahan family would like to thank the staff at Penacook Place for the exceptional care they gave to Eileen during her stay there.
She is survived by her five devoted daughters, Patricia E. and her husband, Richard Francis of Raymond, NH, Maureen A. Roberts of Methuen, Geraldine M. and her husband, Richard Wasilewski of Adams, MA. Jean E. and her husband, Alan Lord of Groveland and Kathleen M. and her husband, David Kervin of Groveland; a loving son, Timothy F. Shanahan of Haverhill; nineteen grandchildren, Richard, Joanne, Mary, Theresa, Michelle, Jennifer, Joseph, Christine, Donna, David, Karen, Susan, Tracy, Timothy, Colleen, Brian, Patrick, Katelyn and Shanley; twenty-six great-grandchildren, Kelly, Valerie, Brandon, Rachel, Jared, Greg, Megan, Spencer, Evan, Nora, Matthew, Jeffrey, Hunter, Ryan, Katie, Douglas, Makena, Jack, Joseph, Matthew, Juliet, Alex, Dylan, Caleb, Shamus and Delaney; three great-great grandchildren, Jonathan, Kyle and Ryan; two sisters-in-law, Mary (Shanahan) Cleary of Bradford and Betty (Rice) Shanahan of Haverhill. She was also predeceased by her son, Joseph W. Shanahan, Jr., her grandson, Steven J. Lord and her two brothers, Gerald and James Boner.
A funeral Mass for Eileen will be celebrated on Friday in St. Patrick’s Church, 114 Center St., Groveland at 10 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday in the Linnehan-Grondin Funeral Home, 129 Kenoza Ave., Haverhill from 4 – 8 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Interment will be held in St. James Cemetery, Primrose St., Haverhill. GROVELAND: Carole E. (Hickey) O’Neil, 67, passed away on Wednesday, January 23, 2013 surrounded by her devoted family. She was the wife of George J. O’Neil with whom she shared forty-eight loving years of marriage. Born in Haverhill on May 23, 1945, she was the daughter of the late William T. and Catherine (Lawler) Hickey and the younger sister of the late Barbara (Hickey) Daniels. Carole was a resident of Groveland for the past forty years and had previously lived in Haverhill. She attended St. James Grammar School and was a graduate of St. James High School class of 1963. She worked as a teaching assistant for several years at the Bagnall Elementary School in Groveland. She had previously worked at Vernon Plastics in Haverhill as a customer service representative for many years. Carole found great comfort in her faith in God and the many blessings that she felt were bestowed upon her during her lifelong commitment to the Catholic Church. Her greatest joy was being a mother to her three sons and relished the role of “Grammy” to her eight wonderful grandsons. She enjoyed watching them grow and engaged in their childhood activities. The best times were when they just came over to “Grammys” to be with her, either alone or as part of the frequent family gatherings. She lived an active life, spending time at the beach, relaxing with the family at Lake Winnipesaukee and traveling with her husband. Some of their favorite trips included Ireland, Florida, Canada, up-state New York and Aruba. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her three devoted sons, Kevin P. O’Neil and his wife, Lynn, Brian T. O’Neil and his wife, Katherine all of Andover and Lieutenant Colonel Sean S. O’Neil and his wife, Amanda of Burke, VA; her eight wonderful grandsons, Daniel, Nathan, William, Jack, Alex, Brenden, Grady and Cormac; brother-in-law, Ralph Daniels of Tewksbury; four loving nieces, Laurie Medrick, Kim Olney, Sherry Livsey and Christine Daniels; sister-in-law, Patricia (O’Neil) Pike of Haverhill and her family as well as the large extended family of her late brothers-in-law, William E. and John P. “Jackie” O’Neil and her sister-in-law, Mary Ellen (O’Neil) Eason. Mr. Thomas Edmund Convery, a life-long resident of Medford and beloved husband of Beverly A. (Wiltshire) Convery, died at his home in Medford on Saturday, May 4, 2013. He was 88 years old. Born in Boston, Massachusetts, on February 24, 1925, Tom was a beloved son of the late Thomas B. Convery and Gertrude E. (Ready) Convery. In addition to Beverly, his beloved wife of nearly 62 years, Tom was the loving father of Thomas H. Convery of Wilmington, Timothy and his wife Sandra Convery of Canton, Dorothy and her husband Joseph Pirrello of Groveland, Mark and his wife Sandra Convery of Wilmington, Lawrence Francis Convery (deceased) and Katherine “Beth” and her husband Scott L. Govoni of Medford, grandchildren; Katherine “Susie” and Christopher Pirrello, Amy and her husband Vincent Cicci, Lauren and Kerri Convery, Sarah, Emily, Scott, Rebecca and Thomas Govoni as well as two great-grandchildren, Ava and Ella Cicci. He is survived by many nieces and nephews. Tom was the devoted brother of the late John J. Convery, Edward F. Convery and Mary E. Young. Major (Ret.) Convery was a US Air Force veteran, entering the military on February 15, 1943 and received his honorable discharge on August 31, 1967, from Stewart Air Force base in New York. While in the military, Mr. Convery, received a direct commission during the Korean War and had the rare distinction of having served during three wars, World War II, Korea and Vietnam. Tom was a Civics and History teacher for the Medford Public School System for more than 25 years. Mr. Convery was the Head of Job Placement, a program at Medford High where he found jobs for more than 27,000 students and citizens of Medford. Tom was a dedicated leader in his community with a passion for children, education and veterans. He was involved in countless charities and spearheaded many organizations such as the Salem Street Business Association, Mustang Hall of Fame and Sounding Board at MHS. He was a Past Grand Knight in the Dracut Knights of Columbus, a member of the Medford DAV, VFW Post 1012 and life member of the American Legion, Post 45 and the Irish American. Tom interviewed 95 World War II veterans with the segments being recorded and copies sent to the Library of Congress. In addition to writing a monthly column for the Medford Transcript, Tom wrote 6 books with all the proceeds, over $ 37,000, going to various charities. He was a strong supporter of Smile Train, the Friends of St. Francis Food Pantry, the Buddy Coholan Memory Loss Center, the Special Olympics, the New England Shelter for the Homeless and Make A Wish. Mr. Convery was awarded the Citizen of the Year Award from the Medford Chamber of Commerce in 1976 and a lifetime achievement award from the Medford Historical Society in 2012. Tom has also served on the Medford Traffic Commission for many years. Tom was an avid bowler, dancer and golfer who enjoyed vacationing in New Hampshire, supplying American flags for all, each year at the North Woodstock, Fourth of July Parade. Above all, Tom was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He will be sorely missed. His Funeral Mass was celebrated in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 441 Fellsway West, Medford, Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at 10 AM. Visiting hours were held in the church on Tuesday, May 7, 2013, from 3-8 PM. Services concluded with military honors and interment in Oak Grove Cemetery in Medford. Irene (Belanger) Golden, 86, of Groveland, formally of Lawrence and North Andover, passed away peacefully Saturday June 15th at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill. Born in Lawrence daughter of the late Emile and Leda (Matton) Belanger, she was one of nine children. Irene was a graduate of the former McIntosh Business School in Lawrence and later was employed by the Textile Workers Union CIO for ten years prior to staying home to raise her family. Upon returning to the business world she was employed as the Administrative Assistant to the President of the former Arlington Trust Company in Lawrence. She retired in 1987 after twenty six years of service and then spent her later years making quilts for her family, friends, and homeless shelters.
Irene is survived by her husband of 61 years Joseph Golden, three children Michael Golden and his wife Bonnie, Karen M. Golden-Smith and her husband Lloyd of Middleton, Joseph A. Golden and his wife Claire of Haverhill, three siblings Raymond Belanger and his wife Cecile of Methuen, Rita Cote and her husband Ovila of Bradford, Ernest Belanger and his wife Alicia of Madrid, Spain, brother in-law Lauren Smart, three sisters in-law Charlotte Belanger, Ethel (Golden) Belanger, Catherine (Golden) Winn and numerous nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may call Wednesday June 19th from 4-8 PM at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home 233 Lawrence Street Methuen MA. A funeral mass of Christian Burial will take place Thursday June 20th at 9 AM at Our Lady of Good Counsel/St Theresa’s Church with burial to follow at St Mary Immaculate Cemetery in Lawrence. Port St. John, FL: Warren O. Brodie, 97, died Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at his daughter’s home with his family by his side. He was the husband of the late Rosetta M. (Lambert) Brodie.
Born in Groveland on June 12, 1916, he was the son of the late Frank and Blanche (Magneson) Brodie. He was a resident of Groveland for most of his life until he relocated to Florida in 1998. Warren was a graduate of Groveland High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1941 and was honorably discharged in 1945. While serving our country during World War II, Warren became a Staff Sergeant in Company H 164th Infantry and because of his brave and heroic actions he was a recipient of the Purple Heart and Silver Star. He was a member of the Groveland VFW and a parishioner of St. Patrick’s Church.
Warren was the former owner of Brodie Shoe Repair that was located on White Street in Haverhill for many years. He had a passion for golf whether he was playing or just watching it on television and also was an avid reader who especially liked books about history. Warren can be remembered as a father that was always available for his children around the clock. The depth of his love and caring for them will be forever in their hearts.
He is survived by his three loving children, Peter Brodie and his wife, Muriel of Pelham, NH, Stephen Brodie and his wife, Anne of Groveland and Patricia A. (Brodie) Barhanys of Port St. John, FL; eleven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his daughter, Mary Jean Brodie Davis; a sister, Lucy Carter and his granddaughter, Beth Ann Brodie.
A funeral Mass for Warren will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 16, 2013 in St. Patrick’s Church in Groveland at 10:00 A.M. Visiting hours will be held on Monday, July 15, 2013 in the Linnehan-Grondin Funeral Home, 52 Salem Street in Bradford from 5 – 7 P.M. The Brodie Family welcomes you to attend. THE VILLAGES, FL: Ilene M. (Scott) Courtney Millstein, died Friday, September 13, 2013 at her daughter’s home in East Kingston, NH. Ilene married her childhood sweetheart, the late Bernard J. Courtney and they made their home in Groveland. She later married Steven Millstein who preceded her in death. They resided in N. Reading and The Villages in Florida. They enjoyed traveling and had many good times together.
Born in Holden, MA, she spent the first ten years of her life in Barre, MA. She was the daughter of the late Joseph A. and Marion (Harty) Scott and stepdaughter of Ivy Walker Scott. Ilene was a direct descendent of Richard Warren of the Mayflower. She was also a daughter of the American Revolution. She was a graduate of Lawrence High School, where she was chosen the most beautiful girl in the senior class. She was also a graduate of the McIntosh Business School. She was once employed at the former Western Electric in N. Andover and Parlex in Methuen for several years.
Ilene was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and our best friend. She was the shining star that brightened the hearts of all that had the opportunity to know her. She was a fantastic dancer and enjoyed golfing, bowling and gardening, but most of all she loved to spend time with her family.
She is survived by her loving children, Scott Courtney and his partner, David Sweeney of Lynnfield, Cari Birkhauser and her husband, Paul of Groveland, Kelly Campano and her husband, Michael of East Kingston, NH, Joseph Courtney of Florida, Ilene Kozdra and her husband, Ken of Groveland and Bunny Courtney of Tampa, FL; twenty grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Carol Carpentier and her husband, Richard of Lowell; son-in-law, Randall Buturlia of N. Andover; sister-in-law, Jacqueline Stanley of Bradford; brother-in-law, Thomas Courtney and his wife, Barbara of Haverhill; beloved uncle and aunt, Thomas and Joan Harty and beloved aunt and uncle Fay and Bill Smith all of Barre, MA and many nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her daughter, Gayle Buturlia.

GROVELAND: Joseph H. “Joe” Roberts, 91, died Monday, September 23, 2013 in the Oxford Manor Nursing Home with his loving and devoted family by his side. He was the husband of Mildred E. (Villers) Roberts. He was predeceased by his first wife and the mother of his nine children, Irene F. (Archambault) and his second wife, Theresa M. (Comeau) Roberts.
Born in Raymond, New Hampshire on December 7, 1922, he was the son of the late Charles H. and Clara J. (Boardman) Roberts. He resided in Haverhill and Kezar Falls, Maine for many years before moving to Groveland in 1998. Joe was a U. S. Navy World War II veteran. He enlisted in 1942 and was honorably discharged in 1945. He was a member of Wilbur M. Comeau, VFW Post, #4 and the American Legion in Haverhill.
He worked as an auto technician for Coppola Bus Company of Haverhill, Jim Howe Chevrolet of Newton, New Hampshire and the former Warrier’s Texaco Gas Station in Amesbury. He had also once owned and operated Lafayette Auto Service on Essex Street in Haverhill for sixteen years.
Joe was an avid collector of shot glasses, decks of cards and coins. He was known for his story telling talents and loved to share his stories with folks of all ages. He will be remembered most for his zest for life. Even though he had such a large family he still made it possible to make time for them all. Joe’s family will have many cherished memories of the times they have spent together, especially at their home in Kezar Falls.
In addition to his wife, he is also survived by his four sons, Joseph P. Roberts and his wife, Peggy, Gary C. Roberts and his wife, Sharon, Michael A. Roberts and his wife, Debbie and Mark A. Roberts; five daughters, Ilene Callahan and her husband, John, Barbara Bogrett and her husband, Steve, Diana Martin and her companion, Howard Edwards, Norma Jean Giorato and her husband, Tony and Carol Roberts; two stepdaughters, Sandra L. Ansley and her husband, Joe and Catherine Arsenault and her husband, Donald; adopted son, Edmond Roberts and his wife, Ginger; twenty-eight grandchildren; thirty-four great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews, especially Janet and Judy who would visit him often. He was also predeceased by his grandson, David Arsenault; great-granddaughter, Isabella Gondolfo and his daughter-in-law, Sandy Roberts.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, September 27, 2013 in St. James Church, 161 Winter St., Haverhill at 10 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, September 26, 2013 in the Linnehan-Grondin Funeral Home, 129 Kenoza Ave., Haverhill from 4 – 8 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Interment will be held in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Haverhill. AMESBURY – Diane M. (Thomas) Burke, 62, of Amesbury, formerly of Salem, died Tuesday evening, February 11, 2014 at the Anna Jaques Hospital, Newburyport with her family at her side. Born in Lynn, she was the daughter of the late John and Patricia (Dodd) Thomas. Raised and educated in Salem, she was a graduate of Salem High School with the class of 1970. Diane was employed for over 33 years as a customer service rep for A. W. Chesterton in Groveland. A resident of Amesbury for the past 30 years, she enjoyed traveling, spending time with family and friends, quilting and was a member of a quilting club in the Merrimack Valley area. GROVELAND: Barbara A. (Meder) Meyer, 93 years young, died Thursday, February 20, 2014 in the Halcyon House in Methuen with her loving family by her side after a period of declining health. She was the wife of the late Berthold “Bert” C. Meyer with whom she is now reunited with in heaven after five years. Born on October 30, 1920 in Plainfield, New Jersey, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Josephine Meder. She was a graduate of Plainfield High School and also attended Berkeley School of Secretarial Training in New Jersey. Barbara proudly enlisted in the United States Navy in 1944 during World War II until she was honorably discharged in 1946. Barbara worked as a secretary for various legal and public relations firms and also worked for the renowned, Brown Brothers Harriman in New York City for several years. In her spare time, she could be found knitting, crocheting, sewing, and cooking homemade after school treats for her children. Her all-time favorite delicacy to eat was lobster which she continued to enjoy up until the last few months. Her devotion as a wife, mother and grandmother was immeasurable. Her family considered her to be their best friend as well. Barbara’s family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the Halcyon House for the outstanding care their mother received during her stay with them. Barbara is survived by her children, Walter C. Meyer and his wife, Edith L. of Bedford, NH, Douglas R. GROVELAND: Marie Louise Lynch, 94, died, Tuesday, May 13, 2014 in her home at Nichols Village. Born in Peabody on August 22, 1919, she was the daughter of the late William R. and Mary (O’Keefe) Lynch. Marie resided in Danvers most of her life until she and her sister relocated to Groveland ten years ago. A graduate of Danvers High School, she graduated from Calvin Coolidge College and received her Master’s Degree in Education from Boston University. She had also attended Essex Agricultural & Technical School. Marie became a teacher and taught at several elementary schools in Danvers, Saltonstall School in Salem and Salem State College. She loved children and taught religion at St. Mary’s Church. She also enjoyed working at the Danvers playgrounds and summer camps for many years. Marie was an officer in the Danvers Historical Society and a member of the Peabody Jr. Women’s Club. She traveled extensively through most of the United States and Canada. She also traveled with her sister, Eileen to visit their brother, James in Germany and also visited Ireland, England, Italy, France, Holland and Switzerland. She is survived by her sister, Eileen M. Lynch and was predeceased by her brother, James E. Lynch. Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday in the Carmelite Monastery, 15 Mount Carmel Road, Danvers at 10:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. GROVELAND: Richard J. Brennan, 80, passed away on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at home with his loving family by his side. He was the devoted husband of Patricia (Hamm) Brennan with whom he shared fifty-six years of marriage. Born in Boston on October 13, 1933, he was the son of the late Harry and Mary (Blais) Brennan. He was a graduate of Boston Cathedral High School. Richard proudly served as Corporal in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1953 until he was honorably discharged in 1955. He was employed as a toll auditor for thirty-eight years at the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority. He retired in 1996 and had never missed a day of work He was a former member of the OPEIU Local 6 and the AFLCIO for many years. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and he relished the time he spent with his family. Richard enjoyed summers on Cape Cod, taking trips with his family to Florida and the many family gatherings they shared throughout the years. He will be forever in the hearts of his family. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his three children, Kathleen Kennedy and her husband, Charles of Newton, NH, Patricia MacMillan and her husband, Richard of West Hopkinton, NH and Richard J. Brennan, Jr. and his wife, Andrea of Boston; seven grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; two brothers, James Brennan and his wife, Virginia of Fullerton, CA and Arthur Brennan of Hull; a sister, Marie Higgins of Seabrook, NH; a cousin, Sister Ann Mildred Brennan, SND of Dorchester and many nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his brother, Harry Brennan. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday in St. Patrick’s Church, 114 Center Street in Groveland at 12 Noon. Phyllis M. Puorro of Middleton died unexpectedly on Thursday evening at the Massachusetts General Hospital. She was 73. Phyllis was born and raised in Medford, the daughter of the late Michael and Theresa (Canale) Ritchie. She was a graduate of Medford High and worked for many years in the Woburn District Court. A resident of Lynnfield and later of Middleton, Phyllis was a proud owner with her husband of Felicia’s Restaurant in Stoneham. She was a devoted wife to her husband of 53 years, Fred as well as a loving mother to her sons and was a dear sister. Phyllis enjoyed the company of family and many friends. The beloved wife of Fred Puorro, she was a devoted mother to Fred Puorro Jr. of Middleton, Mark Puorro and his partner Richard Goodrich of Groveland and Paul Puorro of Haverhill. She was a dear sister to Josephine Monbouquette and her husband Bill of Gloucester, Jeanette O’Neil of Foxboro and her late husband Steve and the late Matthew Ritchie. She also leaves many nieces and nephews. Her funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St. Medford, Tuesday, June 24th at 9 AM followed by a Funeral Mass celebrated in St. Patrick Church, 71 Central Street, Stoneham at 10 AM. Mr. Thomas Edmund Convery, a life-long resident of Medford and beloved husband of Beverly A. (Wiltshire) Convery, died at his home in Medford on Saturday, May 4, 2013. He was 88 years old. Born in Boston, Massachusetts, on February 24, 1925, Tom was a beloved son of the late Thomas B. Convery and Gertrude E. (Ready) Convery. In addition to Beverly, his beloved wife of nearly 62 years, Tom was the loving father of Thomas H. Convery of Wilmington, Timothy and his wife Sandra Convery of Canton, Dorothy and her husband Joseph Pirrello of Groveland, Mark and his wife Sandra Convery of Wilmington, Lawrence Francis Convery (deceased) and Katherine “Beth” and her husband Scott L. Govoni of Medford, grandchildren; Katherine “Susie” and Christopher Pirrello, Amy and her husband Vincent Cicci, Lauren and Kerri Convery, Sarah, Emily, Scott, Rebecca and Thomas Govoni as well as two great-grandchildren, Ava and Ella Cicci. He is survived by many nieces and nephews. Tom was the devoted brother of the late John J. Convery, Edward F. Convery and Mary E. Young. Major (Ret.) Convery was a US Air Force veteran, entering the military on February 15, 1943 and received his honorable discharge on August 31, 1967, from Stewart Air Force base in New York. While in the military, Mr. Convery, received a direct commission during the Korean War and had the rare distinction of having served during three wars, World War II, Korea and Vietnam. Tom was a Civics and History teacher for the Medford Public School System for more than 25 years. Mr. Convery was the Head of Job Placement, a program at Medford High where he found jobs for more than 27,000 students and citizens of Medford. Tom was a dedicated leader in his community with a passion for children, education and veterans. He was involved in countless charities and spearheaded many organizations such as the Salem Street Business Association, Mustang Hall of Fame and Sounding Board at MHS. He was a Past Grand Knight in the Dracut Knights of Columbus, a member of the Medford DAV, VFW Post 1012 and life member of the American Legion, Post 45 and the Irish American. Tom interviewed 95 World War II veterans with the segments being recorded and copies sent to the Library of Congress. In addition to writing a monthly column for the Medford Transcript, Tom wrote 6 books with all the proceeds, over $ 37,000, going to various charities. He was a strong supporter of Smile Train, the Friends of St. Francis Food Pantry, the Buddy Coholan Memory Loss Center, the Special Olympics, the New England Shelter for the Homeless and Make A Wish. Mr. Convery was awarded the Citizen of the Year Award from the Medford Chamber of Commerce in 1976 and a lifetime achievement award from the Medford Historical Society in 2012. Tom has also served on the Medford Traffic Commission for many years. Tom was an avid bowler, dancer and golfer who enjoyed vacationing in New Hampshire, supplying American flags for all, each year at the North Woodstock, Fourth of July Parade. Above all, Tom was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He will be sorely missed. His Funeral Mass was celebrated in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 441 Fellsway West, Medford, Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at 10 AM. Visiting hours were held in the church on Tuesday, May 7, 2013, from 3-8 PM. Services concluded with military honors and interment in Oak Grove Cemetery in Medford.
